Rifco are pleased to announce that the company has been nominated for Best Stage Production for Laila The Musical and Best Live Event for the British Asian Festival at this year’s Asian Media Awards.

The announcement took place on Monday 19th September, at ITV studios, London. Nominations were announced by ITV’s Commissioning Editor for Entertainment Asif Zubairy, actor and comedian Tez Ilyas, Dean of the School of Arts and Media at University of Salford Professor Alan Walker, Executive Director of Mediacom Sanjay Sabi, Chair & Founder of charity partner Asian Circle Santosh Bhanot, MP Roseana Allin-Khan and Umbreen Ali from the Asian Media Awards.

The annual event showcases the very best talent working in the media and creative industries. The awards ceremony will take place at the Hilton Manchester Deansgate on Thursday 27th October.

Laila The Musical produced by Rifco, Watford Palace Theatre and Queen's Theatre Hornchurch toured England this spring/summer. Written by Pravesh Kumar, with music by Sumeet Chopra and lyrics by Dougal Irvine the new British musical retold the popular eastern love story of Laila Majnu. The show received rave reviews from press across the country and was watched by over 14,000 audience members. 

The British Asian Festival took place at Watford Palace Theatre in January this year. The three-day event featured exhibitions by contemporary illustrator Inkquisitive and The Singh Project by photographers Amit and Naroop. Screening of Comedy film Convenience and scratch performances of new work from Rifco’s developing artists – Rifco Associates and popular Rifco character MummyJi returned for MummyJi Presents…The Professionals. Also, the BBC Asian Network brought their Big Comedy Night to the theatre for the first time. 

Previously Rifco and Watford Palace Theatre took home the Asian Media Award for Best Live Event for 2013 dance comedy drama Break The Floorboards and comedy drama Happy Birthday Sunita was nominated for Best Stage Production last year.
