Opportunity: Digital Comedy Writing Workshop

Call out for young British Asian Comedy Writers or Writer-performers!

Are you a comedy writer, writer-performer or Youtube comedian aged 16-24 years old?

We are giving five young creatives the chance to participate in a two-day writing workshop.

Successful applicants will be guided through the writing process by theatre company Rifco’s Artistic Director Pravesh Kumar and two guest mentors.

Through the workshop you will write a one-minute comedy sketch about your experiences of being British Asian. This will be produced, filmed and shared on the Arts Council England’s multi-channel Youtube network Canvas: http://bit.ly/CanvasArtsOfficial

Workshop Dates: Wednesday 31st August & Thursday 1st September 2016 - Location: Watford

Sketch filming dates: Week commencing 10th October 2016 - Location: TBC

  1. Applicants must be aged between 16-24 years old at the time of application and must reside in England and be able to provide proof of age and address.
  2. Videos submitted with the application must be of your own original comedy material.
  3. Successful applicants must attend both workshop dates.
  4. Rifco reserves the right to change the schedule of the filming dates with reasonable notice.
  5. The copyright of scripts developed via the workshop shall remain vested with the creator (you). The creator agrees to licence the script exclusively to Rifco and Canvas for the period of the project.
  6. The workshops will be filmed and participants agree to be filmed and interviewed for broadcast.
  7. A contribution towards reasonable travel expenses is available on request.

Canvas is an Arts Council-funded digital initiative. Combining original content with videos from some of the country's leading arts and cultural organisations, its aim to encourage younger audiences to engage in the arts on YouTube and other digital platforms.

The workshop project is also being funded by the Arts Council's Amplify initiative.
