Casting call for young actor with a disability

7 November 2017

Rifco are looking for a young actor with a disability to play the lead role in a new play by Gurpreet Kaur Bhatti, directed by Pravesh Kumar - Dishoom!

Dishoom! will be produced by Rifco Theatre Company, Watford Palace Theatre and Oldham Coliseum Theatre. The production will open in 2018 at Watford Palace Theatre followed by a UK tour.

Dates including rehearsals: 8 August - 10 November 2018

Simon is 16 and is British South Asian.  He’s a fairly typical teenager; but there is something extra about him; as well as being funny, and warm, he’s forthright, fearless and sometimes the fact that he feels like an outsider helps him to say exactly what he thinks. Simon has a disability which means it’s difficult for him to live independently – at least, that is what his parents think...

We need an excellent young actor with a young playing age. We are casting this play early, before the script is finalised, in order that we can be as flexible as possible about the nature of Simon’s disability, and the script will be written according to whoever is playing Simon.

Although we are happy to consider all suggestions, for plot reasons we want to cast an actor with a physical or sensory disability that means that other people don’t think Simon can live independently.  We would ideally like an actor who is a wheelchair user or has some significant issues with mobility. We are not considering any non-disabled actors for this part.

We are not necessarily looking for an actor who has formally trained or has a lot of previous acting experience, and are very happy to see acting CVs and photographs from people who don’t have an agent. We are not considering any non-disabled actors for this part.

If you are interested in being considered for this role, please send an email which details any acting experience you have and a photo (which doesn’t need to be a professional acting headshot) to [email protected].

Please do not send speculative casting applications to this email address.

Emails regarding casting for other roles will not be accepted.
