Call for pitches: Rifco Associates 2017

Rifco are offering up to six artists the opportunity to create a new piece of work. Six small commissions will be granted to British Asian artists and creatives both early in their career and mid-career to support them to create a new piece of work or a new concept. 

We welcome proposals for ideas across a variety platforms: theatre, dance, spoken word/poetry, music, digital work and stand-up. We are also keen to support creative artists - designers, choreographers, costume and lighting designers.

Deadline for submissions: 10am on Friday 5th May 2017. Interviews will be held during w/c 22nd May.

We are looking for ideas that celebrate and reflect contemporary British Asian culture.

Successful applicants will be commissioned to create a 15-minute piece to be presented at a platform event at our base at Watford Palace Theatre in Spring 2018.

Applicants should be able to demonstrate that they have developed their skills and craft to a reasonable level through higher or further education and also to have had some professional experience in their chosen art form.

What are Rifco Associates?

Rifco has made a commitment to delivering a structured pathway of support for British Asian and South Asian artists and creatives called Rifco Associates.

Rifco Associates is a two-year rolling programme of support from early stages to mid-career. This structured programme of support is about opening up access to a wider range of artists. Celebrating the voices of British Asian contemporary artists on stage and creativity behind the scenes.

There is a bespoke approach to each Associate through a programme of small commissions, workshops and peer-to-peer mentoring.

The Rifco Associates programme is structured as Year One and Year Two with an initial one-year commitment to up to six artists. Year One includes:

- Initial meeting to discuss ideas and identify where each Associate needs guidance
- Associates are granted a seed commission of £500 to research and develop a new idea 
- An industry mentor acts as a Critical Friend to each artist with two progress meetings to support realising ideas, signposting other resources and organisations and critiquing artistic process
- Providing a platform event for Associates to share initial ideas with each other, a mentor and a carefully selected group of industry peers
- Two Associate Learn & Share Days providing the opportunity to skill share
- Advice from Rifco staff team in a range of arts management topics

- Name, Address and Telephone numbers
- A paragraph about you and your artistic practice
- Project title
- A paragraph about the piece and how you would develop it 
- What you imagine your development process will involve and what support you might need from an industry mentor
- How you think your piece will develop your artistic practice
- What interests you about working with Rifco
- A example of your work as downloadable digital content if appropriate or links to websites and other information about you and your work
