Shake your shoulders, twist that lightbulb; this is the story of how Britain Got Bhangra…

Award Winning Rifco Arts and Theatre Royal Stratford East in association with Warwick Arts Centre brings you a brand new Bhangra musical charting the rise of British Bhangra music from the sequin clad 80s through to the RnB fusion of the current charts. Twinkle arrives fresh from the fields of the Punjab with a song in his heart and no money in his pocket. Can his talent shine through or will the remixed bling of the 90s DJ ruin his dreams?

From the Company who brought you hit shows such as The Deranged Marriage, There’s Something About Simmy and Where’s My Desi Soulmate; Rifco Arts groundbreaking musical is guaranteed to lift you from the Dhol Drums! We have brought together the cream of Theatrical and Musical talent to develop this groundbreaking production including Sumeet Chopra (composer) who has written music and collaborated with many of the bhangra worlds stars including the Dhol Foundation, Punjabi MC and many Bollywood Movies; Lyrics are by Dougal Irvine whose award winning musical Departure Lounge has recently been performed in New York: Punjabi lyrics are by Bittu Denowalia and the story is written by Pravesh Kumar, Artistic Director of Rifco Arts and the talent behind numerous hit shows including There’s Something About Simmy and The Deranged Marriage. Choreography is by Andy Kumar who has taken a break from filming the hit TV show in India Dare 2 Date and flown in to the UK specifically for this production. With a talented cast including the award winning Shin; the Lead Singer and driving force behind legendry bhangra band DCS, Sophiya Haque (Coronation Street, Bombay Dreams, The Far Pavilions), Natasha Lewis (National Theatre, Tim Burton’s Sweeney Todd), Rakesh Boury (We Will Rock You) and Rina Fatania (Deranged Marriage, Bombay Dreams).
